Hearing set to discuss closure of Uniontown schools
A Scottdale man died Tuesday afternoon when his tri-wheeled motorcycle was involved in a rear-end crash with another vehicle in East Huntingdon Township. Mark F. Hixson was traveling north on Route 819 shortly before 2:45 p.m. when he struck the rear of an SUV near Cedar Drive, Westmoreland County Coroner John Ackerman said in a press release. Hixson was wearing a helmet, but was thrown from the motorcycle and struck the ground, Ackerman said. He was pronounced dead by the coroner鈥檚 office less than an hour later. The Keystone Exams, which are part of a Pennsylvania high school student鈥檚 graduation requirements, could soon be under the microscope following a vote last week in the state鈥檚 House of Representatives asking that a study be done to determine if alternatives could be used instead. The vote was 191-10, indicating broad bipartisan support for the measure in the narrowly divided House.
