Certain foods have inspired a devotion that other dishes simply cannot match. Oysters certainly fit that mold. To oyster lovers, there’s simply no better way to start a meal than to order a plate of these wildly popular delicacies.

Of course, oysters also can be enjoyed at home. Whether you procure your own oysters or find them at your local fishery, this recipe for “Oysters With Spinach and Gruyere” from Lines+Angles is a simple and tasty way to enjoy this popular delicacy once you arrive home.

Oysters With Spinach and Gruyere

Makes 4 servings

24 oysters (in the shell), scrubbed

1鈦2 cup butter, melted

6 ounces fresh spinach, cooked and drained

6 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

4 ounces Gruyere cheese, grated

1 lemon, cut into wedges, for garnish

1. Shuck oysters using an oyster knife. Scrub the inside of the deeper shell.

2. Brush the inside of each shell with a generous amount of melted butter. Spread a layer of cooked spinach on each shell. Dip each oyster in Worcestershire sauce and place on top of spinach. Sprinkle each oyster with remaining melted butter and top with grated Gruyere cheese.

3. Place oysters in a shallow pan or on a cookie sheet. Broil quickly or until the edges of the oyster curl and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

4. Serve on a bed of sea salt with lemon wedges.
