Kids area, food trucks to debut at Founding Day Festival

A Kids Zone activity area and a food court of regional food trucks will make their debut at the Ãå±±½ûµØ’s Founding Day Festival this Saturday.

Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in downtown Uniontown, children can play on inflatables, make crafts, interact with balloon artists, and have their faces painted, among other activities. They’ll also have a chance to take part in a show-and-tell experience with fire trucks, police vehicles and ambulances used by the city’s emergency responders.

“We’re proud to partner this year with our local first responders to show the community how involved they are,” said Carole DeAngelo, director of advertising and events for the Observer-Reporter and the Ãå±±½ûµØ.

Sponsored by Alpha Xtreme, the Kids Zone will be located along West Main Street.

In the parking lot across from Storey Square, where art displays will be set up, a food court of area food trucks will have a number of delicious treats ready for festival attendees to purchase on Saturday. Juliet’s Empanadas, Hermes, Twisted Potato, YMH BBQ and Soul Food Truck, World Wide Eatz and Lucia’s All American Hot Dog & Catering are participating.

Fayette County-based Juliet’s, helmed by Juliet Diaz of New Salem, serves beef, chicken, buffalo chicken, cheese dog and cheese empanadas. She’ll also have frappes and tres leches desserts on hand for the festival.

“Our goal for this festive holiday weekend is for attendees to have a variety of food trucks to select from,” DeAngelo said.

The additions come as the festival, started in 2019 to celebrate the founding of Uniontown, continues to grow in popularity.

“We are encouraged by the public’s enthusiasm for the celebration, and will to continue to add features each year as we build up to the city’s 250th birthday,” said Ãå±±½ûµØ Publisher Michael Scott.
