Volunteers and members of the American Red Cross will team up with community partners to install free smoke alarms for families vulnerable to home fires during a Sound the Alarm event this Saturday in Uniontown.
This effort is part of the national Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, which has helped save at least 2,063 lives since launching in October 2014.
The Uniontown event, which kicks off the campaign in Western Pennsylvania, begins at 11 a.m. at the Uniontown Fire Department, 84 N. Beeson Ave. Volunteers from the fire department and Christ’s Church Greensburg will be on hand to install smoke detectors in homes until 3 p.m.
A second event will be held in Monessen on Saturday, May 11 at the Monessen Volunteer Fire Department, 239 Donner Ave., Ste. B, Monessen. That event begins at 9:30 a.m., with in-home installations until 3 p.m.
Those in either city who are in need of a smoke detector can request an installation appointment by calling 833-315-0882, or visiting SoundTheAlarm.org/greaterpa.
Volunteers are also welcome, and no prior experience is necessary as training will be provided. Those interested can follow the Sound the Alarm link above.
