Nonprofit awards grants to help local child care providers

1 min read

The Learning Lamp, with funding from an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) POWER grant, provided mini-grats to new and existing child care providers in the region.

The money allowed providers to invest in quality programs, better support children and expand access to child care.

Fifty-seven grants of up to $1,000 were given in Fayette, Somerset, Westmoreland, Blair, Bedford and Cambria counties.

The funds were used to buy playground equipment, curriculum, outdoor items like fencing and sunshades, and classroom equipment like shelves, center supplies, and cabinets. The grant allowed the program director to supplement wages during its startup. Among the recipients were Footprints Academy in Connellsville and New Hope Child Care in Scottdale.
