West Greene Lions Club names outstanding students
The West Greene Lions Club recognized three students for being selected as Outstanding Students of the Class of 2026. The students and their families received a meal in their honor. The students were also awarded a certificate and a $50 Amazon gift card. By attending the meeting and giving a short speech, the students are eligible to participate in writing a short essay, in which three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.
Emmaline Beazell is the daughter of Noah and Joni Beazell of Waynesburg. She is a four-year letterman and captain of the varsity softball team; three-year letterman and varsity volleyball team captain; and one-year letterman for varsity rifle and cheer. She is the secretary of the Science Club, National Honor Society Sergeant at Arms, vice president of West Greene’s FFA Chapter, a SADD member and a five-year P-20 participant.
Emmaline plans to attend Ohio State University or West Virginia University to study animal science, with the goal of becoming a veterinarian.
Gavin Cassiday is the son of Butch and Stephanie Cassiday of Holbrook. Gavin was his class’s vice president for three years, is drum major of the marching band, a member of the Literacy Club, Publications Club and Science Club, and a letterman for the marching band. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Gavin plans to attend Duquesne University to pursue a degree in occupational therapy. Â
Kendra Tharp is the daughter of Cory and Natasha Tharp of Wind Ridge. She is a student adviser for the FFA Chapter, vice president of the Class of 2026, a member of the National Honor Society, Science Club, SADD, Hope Squad, Prom Committee and the Calculus Club. She is a three-year letterman and a two-year captain of both softball and basketball, and co-captain of cheer.
She plans to attend a four-year college to earn her bachelor’s degree in health administration or pre-physical therapy.
