Music review: The Dead Daisies – 鈥楳ake Some Noise鈥�
I recently had a spirited discussion about music with fellow classic rock enthusiast Tim Mitchell of Hopwood. After trading stories about the shows we attended and the variety of bands we had seen over the years, I began to search for newer bands that possessed a vintage sound delivered by groups like Deep Purple, Foghat, AC/DC and Bad Company.
I soon discovered a new release by a collection of talented rock artists from various bands that reminded me of concerts I attended in the 1970s.
The Dead Daisies made it loud to be played loud with the rousing 鈥淢ake Some Noise.鈥� Consisting of singer John Corabi (Motley Crue and Angora), bassist Marco Mendoza (Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy), drummer Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne and Foreigner), and guitarist David Lowy (Mink) and Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake and Dio), the individual members bring plenty of firepower to the band鈥檚 third album that relentlessly launches one stadium anthem after another.
The first single, 鈥淟ong Way to Go,鈥� opens the festivities with a wall of guitars leading the way for Corabi鈥檚 muscular vocals as he announces, 鈥淭here鈥檚 something going down on the streets right now.鈥�
鈥淲e All Fall Down鈥� offers the gritty guitar gusto of songs found on early Aerosmith albums like 鈥淩ocks鈥� and 鈥淒raw the Line.鈥�
鈥淢ake some noise/Make it louder/Make some noise/Everybody now,鈥� demands Corabi on the pounding title track that instantly encourages audience participation.
While 鈥淪ong and a Prayer鈥� is a melodic rocker that is perfect for radio, 鈥淢ainline鈥� burns right out the gate with a blistering fury reminiscent of vintage Scorpions, Guns N鈥� Roses and Ted Nugent.
Produced by Marti Frederiksen, who previously worked with Motley Crue, Aerosmith and Def Leppard, much of the material comes off as classic Aerosmith on steroids.
Two searing cover tracks are also featured on the new release. The Who鈥檚 鈥淛oin Together鈥� and Creedence Clearwater Revival鈥檚 鈥淔ortunate Son鈥� are given a rock 鈥榥鈥� roll makeover that sounds better than ever.
The Dead Daisies will be opening for Kiss when the two bands hit Erie Insurance Arena on Aug. 27. It would be worth the short trip to Erie to experience this electrifying show in person. Something tells me that my fellow rock music aficionado may already be working on the details. Rock on.
