Creepy features, seasonal favorites hit the big screen at Rangos Giant Cinema
From Halloween to Christmas, a number of creepy features and beloved holiday classics will hit the big screen over the coming months at Rangos Giant Cinema in Pittsburgh.
Halloween-themed special showings, all on Saturdays, include 鈥淗ocus Pocus鈥 on Oct. 21 at 5:30 and 8 p.m.; 鈥淣ight of the Living Dead鈥 on Oct. 28 at 5:30 and 8 p.m.; and 鈥淭he Nightmare Before Christmas,鈥 on Nov. 4 at 5:30 and 8 p.m. While the latter movie is technically after Halloween, guests are encouraged to come in costume for all three films.
The version of 鈥淣ight of the Living Dead鈥 shown will be the original, which debuted in 1968 in Pittsburgh. The George A. Romero classic was filmed in and around Pittsburgh, and follows seven people barricaded in a rural farmhouse in Western Pennsylvania as it is under assault by an ever-growing group of zombies.
According to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), the film鈥檚 budget was about $114,000 (equivalent to about $941,800 in 2022). Its gross: $30 million (equivalent to $247.8 million in 2022), making it one of the most profitable independent movies ever made.
鈥淭he Muppet Christmas Carol鈥 will help ready viewers for the Christmas season with showings at 5:30 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, and, just in time for Thanksgiving, 鈥淧lanes, Trains and Automobiles鈥 shows on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 and 8 p.m.
Two days after Thanksgiving, on Saturday, Nov. 25, it鈥檚 time to begin the seasonal debate: Is 鈥淒ie Hard鈥 a Christmas movie?
Those who haven鈥檛 seen the 1988 Bruce Willis flick can decide for themselves during an 8 p.m. screening.
Open Thursday-Sunday, the cinema also offers a number of educational films, including 鈥淏lue Whales: Return of the Giants鈥 through June 30; 鈥淎merica鈥檚 Musical Journey,鈥 from Nov. 2-19; and 鈥淒ream Big: Engineering Our World,鈥 from Nov. 2-19.
