U.S. Navy’s premier jazz ensemble to perform in Pittsburgh

1 min read

The United States Navy Band Commodores jazz ensemble will perform two free public concerts on Thursday at 7 p.m. and at 9:30 p.m., at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild in Pittsburgh.

The concerts are part of a four-day concert series across Pennsylvania and New York. Performances are free, but tickets are required.

The U.S. Navy Band Commodores perform the big band jazz by Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Thad Jones, and also highlights the music of legendary vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. The band also plays original compositions.

As the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble, the Commodores have been performing the very best of big band jazz for the Navy and the nation for more than 50 years. Formed in 1969, the Commodores’ mission includes public concerts, national concert tours, ceremonial support in honoring our veterans, jazz education classes and clinics, and protocol performances for high-level military and civilian government officials.

Tickets are available at mcgjazz.org.
