Front Porch Theatricals’ 2026 season begins with 鈥榃orking鈥
Front Porch Theatricals (FPT) is presenting the musical “Working” starting Friday at Pittsburgh’s New Hazlett Theater.
“This musical is a love letter to the Pittsburgh workforce,” said co-producer Nancy D. Zionts. “So many of the characters featured here are representative of the hard-working people who built and now sustain our city — from the mason, to the teacher, the healthcare worker, the waitress and so many more….”
The original stage adaptation was conceived by Stephen Schwartz, whose work includes “Wicked,” “Pippin” and “Godspell,” and the revised 2012 version includes songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda, James Taylor and others.. This Tony-nominated musical weaves together real stories from workers across professions, including teachers, steelworkers, waitresses, tech support staff, caregivers, and more.
“Each of us carries a narrative shaped by our experiences, and through this production, we aim to spotlight stories that celebrate the diverse voices that make up the fabric of our city,” said co-producer Bruce E.G. Smith.
The musical is based on the 1974 book by Studs Terkel, “Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do.”
Front Porch Theatricals is a Pittsburgh-based musical theater company recognized for producing high quality, professional musicals embracing meaningful subjects.
