Waynesburg wins TriCADA team crown again
Albert Gallatin鈥檚 Tim Wallace joined Waynesburg Central grad and current University of North Carolina wrestler AC Headlee as the second four-time champion in the Tri-County Athletic Director鈥檚 Association (TriCADA) Tournament following a 5-1 decision over Beth-Center鈥檚 Dominic Fundy at 182 pounds last Saturday at Trinity High School.
Wallace opened the tournament on Friday with an 18-2 technical fall in 1:38, and picked up a fall in 39 seconds to reach the finals. The senior and Kent State University recruit used two first-period takedowns, an escape in the second, and rode Fundy for the third. Wallace was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
Waynesburg Central won its second straight and fourth overall team title after crowning three champions. The Raiders finished with 194 points. Canon-McMillan was second with 179 and the hosts were third with 160.5.
Waynesburg Central鈥檚 Caleb Morris won his third TriCADA championship following a 12-3 major decision over Canon-McMillan鈥檚 Donovan McMillion at 132.
Teammate Jackson Henson earned the title at 138 after pinning Burgettstown鈥檚 PJ Smith in 33 seconds.
Jackson鈥檚 brother, Wyatt Henson, won the 120-pound championship with a 2-1 decision over Canon-McMillan鈥檚 Kenny Hayman.
The Raiders had three finish second in Hunter Shriver (106), Colby Morris (145) and Kyle Homet (170).
Teammate Caleb Stephenson placed fourth at 160, and Waynesburg鈥檚 Trey Howard took sixth at 152 after having to forfeit two bouts. The Raiders鈥� Ryan Howard was sixth at 285.
Jefferson-Morgan鈥檚 Gavin Teasdale won his third TriCADA tournament following a 20-5 technical fall over McGuffey鈥檚 Jett Pattison in 4:23. The senior and Penn State University recruit didn鈥檛 compete in the tournament his sophomore season.
Laurel Highlands鈥� Ian Edenfield won his second straight TriCADA championship with a 2-0 decision over West Greene鈥檚 Connor Main at 220. Edenfield defeated Main in the finals last year.
Frazier鈥檚 Thayne Lawrence gave up an early takedown in the first period to Peters Township鈥檚 Coltin Jezioro, but battled back for a fall in 4:38 to win his first TriCADA title.
The Colonials鈥� Corey Dodson was runner-up at 285. Teammates Harley Constable (126) finished third, and Hunter Milligan (145) and Michael Standish (170) took fourth.
The Rockets鈥� Josh Agnew (132) placed third, Nate Bilonick (138) was fifth, Alex Lange (120) took sixth and Kolin Walker (170) was sixth.
The Bulldogs鈥� Jacob Baker finished second at 195, and teammate Jimmy Gwyer was fourth at 120.
Bentworth鈥檚 Manny Dovshek placed third at 120, and teammate Ashton Lopez grabbed the bronze at 220. The Bearcats鈥� John Vargo (182) was fifth, and Bryce Hook (113) was sixth.
Ringgold had five finish in the top six with Tairen Bundy (4th at 106), Trent Gerard (4th at 138), Jacob Duncan (5th at 132), Bo Haines (5th at 195) and Andrew Verscharen (5th at 285) reaching the medal stand.
Mapletown鈥檚 JT Hennessey finished in fifth place at 145, and teammate Kevin Hayes was sixth at 160.
