Maples win first game of the season, 18-4

Geibel Catholic led 3-1 after the first inning Friday afternoon, but visiting Mapletown turned up the offense for the Maples’ first victory of the season, 18-4.

The teams were scheduled to play a Section 2-A doubleheader, but the second game was suspended in the bottom of the first with Mapletown leading 11-1.

The Maples go to 1-8 in the section and 1-11 overall, while the Gators are now 0-7 in the section and 0-9 overall.

Lance Stevenson led Mapletown with two doubles, a single, three RBI and three runs scored. Clay Menear finished with a double, two singles and four runs scored. Zach Rockwell added a double and two singles. Brandon Donley and Chase Wilson both doubled with Donley driving in three runs. Noah Haines had a pair of singles, and Chuck Lash tripled.聽

Matt Atwood came on in relief in the first inning with no outs and finished out with one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Cole Dorobish doubled for the Gators. Eli Haky and Kaeleb Lehman both had two singles.
