Mikes remain undefeated with win over Falcons
CARMICHAELS 鈥 Carmichaels unofficially closed the first half of the Section 8-AA boys golf schedule last Thursday afternoon with a 217-340 victory against Brownsville.
The Mikes improve to 6-0 in the section, but still have to make up the first meeting with Brownsville to officially complete the first half of the schedule.
The Falcons slip to 0-6.
Carmichaels鈥 Taggart Shea led the way with the medalist score of 4-over 41.
鈥淚t鈥檚 decent,鈥 Shea said of his score.
Shea and the other members of the first foursome 鈥 teammate Delaney Lohr and the Falcons鈥 Lindsay Sethman and Jake Defigio 鈥 had some troubles on the green.
鈥淚 was not used to the slowness of these. I鈥檓 coming off playing at Chippewa yesterday,鈥 explained Shea.
Otherwise, Shea was satisfied with his round.
鈥淢y drives were feeling solid today,鈥 said Shea. 鈥淚 like to get in the low 40s most of the time. A couple strokes above isn鈥檛 terrible.鈥
Shea is looking towards the Section 8-AA qualifier on Monday, Sept. 16, at Nemacolin Country Club. The target score to advance to the WPIAL Class AA Individual Golf Championships is 81.
鈥淚 belong there and I鈥檓 hoping to get that (81),鈥 said Shea.
Looking towards the push in the second half for the section title, Shea added, 鈥淚 like to tighten up my game before this last half takes place. My short game, mostly. Every stroke around the green counts.鈥
The Lohr sisters, Delaney and Remmey, both shot 43. Bradley Walker finished with 44 and Christopher Barish carded a 46. Nick Ricco鈥檚 48 was not used.
Sethman was the low golfer for the Falcons with a 7-over 44. Defigio, playing at No. 2, finished with a 50, around where he normally finishes.
鈥淚鈥檓 in the high 40s or low 50s. I鈥檓 pretty consistent. No better, no worse,鈥 said Defigio. 鈥淪ome shots are not as good as others on certain days.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 think I鈥檝e had a string of matches where it鈥檚 been the club.鈥
Defigio, too, had an issue or two on the greens.
鈥淚t was a mixture of both, some speeds were hard (to read) and some breaks were hard,鈥 said Defigio.
Defigio, a senior, wants to keep improving his score and his play in the final month of the season.
鈥淢y scores are better than years past. My scores are consistent,鈥 said Defigio.
Jacob Carnathan (73), Ethan Olesko (74), and Casey Rugola (99) rounded out the scoring for the Falcons.
The girls sectional qualifier for Sethman and one of the Lohr sisters is on Wednesday, Sept. 18, most likely at Butler鈥檚 Golf Course.
