Local football roundup: Brady returns with a bang as Pioneers top Monessen

Colin Brady’s return to the West Greene backfield sparked the Pioneers to a 41-32 Tri-County South Conference victory over visiting Monessen last Friday night.

Brady ran for 301 yards and had touchdown runs of 67, 9, 9 and 74 yards.

Brady’s fourth touchdown run gave the Pioneers (3-0, 5-1) a 41-26 lead, but Monessen answered with Tim Kershaw’s 32-yard scoring run.

Monessen (0-3, 1-5) scored first on Lorenzo Gardner’s 9-yard touchdown. West Greene took the lead later in the quarter on Lane Allison’s 35-yard touchdown pass to Seth Burns.

Brady scored the only touchdown of the second quarter with his 67-yard run.

Both teams scored 20 points in the third quarter. Tim Kershaw, Rodney Johnson and Damajae Martin had touchdown runs for Monessen. Brady had two touchdown runs and Allison four Burns open for a 12-yard scoring pass.

The win sets up a conference showdown at California this Friday night for sole possession of first place.

California 58, Mapletown 0 — The Trojans rolled to a Tri-County South Conference victory at Mapletown.

Spencer Petrucci finished with 119 yards rushing and scored on runs of 40, 32 and 20 yards for California (3-0, 5-1).

The Trojans’ Jake Layhue returned an interception 43 yards for a touchdown and powered into the end zone from a yard out for another score.

Lee Qualk had a 13-yard scoring run and a 10-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Zachary Geletei and Logan Hartley both had a touchdown run.

Mapletown, again playing without A.J. Vanata who returned to the lineup briefly last week, slips to 0-3 in the conference and 2-4 overall.

Jefferson-Morgan 35, Bentworth 14 — The Rockets had three different running backs rush for over 90 yards and outscored the Bearcats 14-0 in the second half to secure a Tri-County South Conference victory at Parker Field.

Collin Bisceglia ran for 96 yards and two touchdowns, Houston Guesman rambled for 95 yards and also scored two TDs and John Woodward followed with 92 yards.

Guesman completed seven of eight passes with one touchdown to Deakyn Dehoet, who had five receptions for 71 yards and also scored a two-point conversion and registered a team-high nine tackles.

Jefferson-Morgan (2-1, 3-3) led 14-0 after the first quarter and 21-14 at halftime. The lead grew to 27-14 after three quarters.

The Bearcats scored all their points in the second quarter on touchdown passes by Vitali Daniels of 12 yards to Ben Hays and 18 yards to Lucas Burt. Caden Hackinson converted both extra-point kicks.

Nathan Bauza kicked three extra points for J-M.

The Rockets are tied for third place in the TCS with Beth-Center.

Bentworth goes to 1-2 in the conference and 3-3 overall.
