Local roundup: Miller’s OT goal lifts Lady Raiders over SA
Ella Miller’s overtime goal lifted Waynesburg Central to a 1-0 Section 2-A victory over South Allegheny in girls soccer action on Monday night.
Lake Litwinovich set up the game-winning goal as Waynesburg finishes 8-4-0 in the section and 11-4-0 overall. Peyton Cowell had the shutout for Waynesburg.
South Allegheny goes to 6-6-0 in the section and 11-7-0 overall.
Girls volleyball
Mapletown 3, McGuffey 0 — The Lady Maples swept past McGuffey for a non-section road victory.,
Mapletown (12-4) won by the scores, 28-26, 25-19, 25-19.
Treslee Weston (7 kills) and Isabella Garnek (6 kills) led the play at the net for Mapletown. Alexis Perry and Devan Clark both finished with 13 digs. Bri Ashton (11 digs, 4 aces) and Bailey Rafferty (18 assists) also contributed to the non-section win.
Thursday, Oct. 12
Mapletown 3, Geibel Catholic 0 — The Lady Maples swept to a Section 2-A volleyball win at Geibel.
Mapletown won by the scores, 25-4, 25-10, 25-3.
Bailey Rafferty had 15 assists and 13 aces for the Lady Maples (8-4, 11-4). Maley Seward served 13 aces. Miranda Wise finished with six kills and four blocks.
Frazier 3, Carmichaels 1 — The Lady Mikes fought back to tie the section with a 25-23 win in the second set, but Frazier closed out the victory with back-to-back set wins.
Frazier (12-0, 14-1) won with set scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-19.
The Lady Commodores’ Maddie Salisbury had a team-high 13 kills, while Grace Vaughn had 12 kills. Gracen Hartman had a double-double with 30 assists and 13 service points, as did Molly Yauch with 23 digs and 15 service points. Allie Monack had a nice all-around performance with 23 assists and five blocks. Addison Schultz finished with three blocks.
Chloe Mitchell (17 assists, 11 digs, 15 service points), Pacey Pratt (14 kills, 10 digs. 11 service points), and Ani Cree (11 kills, 12 digs, 12 service points) all had a triple-double for Carmichaels (5-7). Bailey Barnyak finished with nine kills. Payton Plavi had 12 service points. Avery Voithofer dished out 13 assists.
Boys soccer
Mount Pleasant 3, Waynesburg Central 0 — Jacob McGuinness stopped both shots he faced as the Vikings shut out the Raiders for a Section 3-AA victory.
Grant Zahrobsky, Austin Ulery and Aidan Johnson all scored a goal for Mount Pleasant (12-2-0, 12-3-0).
Waynesburg finishes with a 4-10-0 section record and 5-11-0 overall.
Wednesday, Oct. 11
Mapletown 3, Jefferson-Morgan 0 — The Lady Maples swept past the visiting Lady Rockets for a Section 2-A volleyball victory.
Mapletown (7-4, 10-4) won by the scores, 25-11, 25-17, 25-19.
Mapletown had solid performances from Miranda Wise (9 kills), Treslee Weston (8 kills), Rowen Eisminger (6 kills, 6 digs), Brianna Ashton (18 digs, 3 aces), Devan Clark (7 digs, 5 aces), Marley Seward (6 digs), and Bailey Rafferty (11 digs, 24 assists, 8 aces).
Tuesday, Oct. 10
Yough 2, Waynesburg Central 0 — The Cougars scored twice in the first half and made the lead stand for a Section 3-AA boys soccer victory over the visiting Raiders.
Isaac Pacacha and Colin Barner scored for Yough (7-6-0, 8-7-1). Carson Shiel made seven saves.
Nick Willard made 10 saves for the Raiders (5-8-0, 5-10-0).
Girls volleyball
Southmoreland 3, Waynesburg Central 0 — The Lady Scots ran their winning streak to 16 matches with a Section 3-AA victory over the visiting Lady Raiders.
Southmoreland (14-0, 16-0) swept to victory by the scores, 25-12, 25-15, 25-15>
Taylor Doppelheuer finished with nine kills and Riley Puckey had four kills and 17 assists for Southmoreland.
West Greene 3, Carmichaels 0 — The Lady Pioneers handed visiting Carmichaels at Section 2-A defeat in three sets.
West Greene won by the scores, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.
Carmichaels (5-6) had solid performances from Camryn Anderson (11 assists, 10 digs, 9 service points), Chloe Mitchell (9 assists, 14 digs, 11 service points), Ani Cree (6 aces, 11 kills, 9 service points), Bailey Barnyak (3 aces, 14 service points), Pacey Pratt (9 kills, 10 digs), and Payton Plavi (10 digs).
