Lady Raiders fall in volleyball playoffs to Fort Cherry
Waynesburg Central fell in the preliminary round of the WPIAL Class 2A girls volleyball playoffs, 3-0, to Fort Cherry on Monday night.
The Lady Rangers (12-7) won by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-19 in the match at Peters Township.
Railey Bochna led Waynesburg (11-8) with five kills and Mikalynn Good had three kills.
The Lady Raiders closed their regular season last Thursday with a 3-2 win at Brownsville which knocked the Lady Falcons out of the playoff race in Section 3-AA.
Waynesburg won the first set, 25-18, and Brownsville surged into the lead with set wins of 25-23 and 25-17. The Lady Raiders tied the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set and secured the win by taking the fifth set, 15-12.
Frazier 3, Mapletown 0 — The Lady Commodores finished the Section 2-A schedule without a loss after a straight-sets victory against visiting Mapletown last Thursday.
Frazier swept to victory by the scores, 25-10, 25-22 and 25-14. The Lady Commodores finished with 14-0 section record and overall mark of 16-1.
Frazier’s Addison Schultz (15 kills, 10 blocks), Gracen Hartman (21 assists, 12 service points), and Molly Yauch (12 digs, 11 service points) all finished with double-doubles. Maddie Salisbury had 10 kills and Allie Monack finished with 12 assists.
Rowan Eisiminger (5 kills), Miranda Wise (5 kills, 3 blocks), Devan Clark (14 digs), Bailey Rafferty (13 assists, 3 aces), and Bri Ashton (11 digs, 3 aces) were the stats leaders for the Lady Maples (8-6, 12-6).
Carmichaels 3, Avella 0 — The Lady Mikes ended the season on a winning note with a Section 2-A victory over Avella.
Carmichaels (6-8) won by the scores, 25-8, 25-21, 25-12.
The Lady Mikes received notable performances from Chloe Mitchell (16 assists, 5 aces, 7 digs, 19 service points), Camryn Anderson (14 assists, 3 aces, 19 service points), Pacey Pratt (3 aces), Ani Cree (11 kills), Pacey Pratt (10 kills, 12 digs), and Bailey Barnyak (9 digs).
Wednesday, Oct. 18
Trinity 2, Waynesburg Central 1 — Trinity edged the Lady Raiders in the girls soccer regular season finale for both teams.
Abby Higgins scored the winning goal in the waning seconds of regulation for Trinity (2-13-0). Ella Ward also scored in the victory.
Kaley Rohanna converted Rylei Rastoka’s pass into the lone goal for Waynesburg (11-5-0).
Tuesday, Oct. 17
West Greene 3, Mapletown 1 — The Lady Pioneers dropped the first set, 25-23, then fended off the Lady Maples for a four-set Section 2-A volleyball road victory.
West Greene won the final three sets, 25-22, 27-25, 27-25. Mapletown goes to 8-5 in the section and 12-5 overall.
Mapletown’s stats leaders were Treslee Weston (11 kills, 9 digs), Isabella Garnek (10 kills), Miranda Fox (9 kills), Brianna Ashton (22 digs), Devan Clark (16 digs), Marley Seward (12 digs), and Bailey Rafferty (18 digs, 26 assists, 6 aces).
California 3, Carmichaels 1 — The Lady Mikes stayed alive with a win in the second set, 25-23, but the home squad finished out the Section 2-A victory by taking the next two sets.
California had set wins of 25-10, 25-8 and 25-23.
Carmichaels (5-8) was led by Chloe Mitchell (12 assists, 12 digs, 9 service points), Avery Voithofer (8 assists), Camryn Anderson (6 assists), Bailey Barnyak (4 aces, 8 kills, 15 service points), Ani Cree (3 aces, 12 kills, 10 digs, 11 service points), and Pacey Pratt (7 kills, 11 digs).
California (9-4) had solid performances from Azzy Colditz (26 service points, 7 aces, 22 assists, 2 kills), Ava Bojtos (31 service points, 3 aces, 16 assists, 2 digs), Raegan Gillen (12 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks), Nina Conte (12 kills, 4 digs), Rakiyah Porter (13 digs, 2 aces), Mady Morton (5 kills, 4 blocks), Hayley Gibson (6 kills, 3 blocks), and Morgan Ross (14 service points, 2 aces, 3 digs).
Boys soccer
Beth-Center 1, Waynesburg Central 0 — Mike Rodriguez scored the non-section match’s only goal with 13:17 remaining to lift the Bulldogs to a win over the visiting Raiders.
Waynesburg’s Nick Willard had five saves and Eli Taylor stopped one shot. Luke Amon preserved the shutout with nine saves for Beth-Center (11-6-0).
