Lady Rockets fall to Preuhs, top-seeded Union
Mia Preuhs allowed two unearned runs on two hits and struck out 15 as top-seeded Union advanced to the WPIAL Class A softball semifinals with an 11-2 win over No. 8 Jefferson-Morgan at North Allegheny on Thursday, May 16.
The Lady Scotties play the winner of Monday’s Frazier-West Greene game in the semifinals, 3 p.m. Wednesday at Montour.
Brooklynne Snyder had a single and RBI for the Lady Rockets (7-9).
Bella Cameron led Union (19-1) with a single, home run and two RBI.
Tuesday, May 14
Jefferson-Morgan 10, Carlynton 0 – Emilee Bazzoli fired a one-hit shutout and smacked a run-scoring double as the eighth-seeded Lady Rockets romped over No. 9 Carlynton in a five-inning WPIAL Class A first-round softball playoff game at Peterswood Park.
Jefferson-Morgan extended its streak of seasons with at least one playoff win to five under coach Rich Rush.
Bazzoli walked two and struck out nine as J-M advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals where it will meet No. 1 Union, which received a first-round bye, at a site and time to be determined.
The Lady Rockets (7-8) also got doubles from Addie Larkin and Addyson Teagarden.
Mohawk 8, Waynesburg Central 5 – The Lady Warriors rallied from a 5-3 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Lady Raiders in a WPIAL Class AA first-round playoff game at Montour.
Mylie Pistorius and Lydia Cole each doubled in the game-winning rally. Reagan Magno earned the win in relief for No. 4 Mohawk (15-5).
Losing pitcher Gina Tedrow allowed eight runs, only three of which were earned, on seven hits with six walks and nine strikeouts, and had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. No. 13 Waynesburg ends its season with a 7-12 record.
