Waynesburg drops opener at Stevenson, 73-62
Waynesburg University wasn’t able to hold a 5-point halftime lead in its season opener and went on to fall to Stevenson in Maryland, 73-62, in non-conference men’s basketball action Nov. 9.
The Yellow Jackets put together a 9-0 run to close out the first half for a 28-23 halftime advantage.
The Mustangs had a strong start in the second half and pulled into a 37-32 lead.
Waynesburg tied the game with 14:21 remaining, but Stevenson responded with a 7-point run.
The Yellow Jackets managed to cut the deficit to 46-43 on back-to-back 3-pointers by Grant Barnhart with 10 minutes left in the game, only to have the home team go on a 7-0 run for a 53-43 lead.
Barnhart and Scott Bilovus shared scoring honors for the Yellow Jackets with 14 points and four 3-pointers apiece.
