Yellow Jackets top Allegheny in shootout, 44-41

Waynesburg rallied from an eight-point deficit with 3:59 remaining to edge Allegheny, 44-41, on Saturday in Presidents’ Athletic Conference football play at Allegheny.

The Yellow Jackets (3-4, 3-4) tied the game with 2:31 remaining after Carmichaels graduate Tyler Richmond pulled in a 62-yard touchdown reception from Samuel Barber and Barber ran in the two-point conversion.

Jefferson-Morgan graduate Ewing Jamison’s interception on Allegheny’s ensuing drive set up Waynesburg at its own 31 with 1:38 left.

The Yellow Jackets drove 53 yards in eight plays and Drew Pinkerton kicked a 32-yard field goal with 15 seconds left.

The Gators drove to their own 49 before time expired.

Waynesburg had a 13-6 lead with 12:26 left in the second quarter after Zayne Cawley caught a 69-yard touchdown pass from Barber.

Cawley rushed for 150 yards on 30 carries and Barber was 17 of 22 for 355 yards.

Allegheny’s Chris Gisewhite caught two touchdown passes from Trevor Brncic for a 20-13 halftime advantage.

Sekye Miles’ 18-yard touchdown reception from Barber pulled the Yellow Jackets within one before Southmoreland graduate Isaac Trout (29-yard reception) and Cawley (13-yard run) scored for a 33-20 lead with 4:41 left in the third quarter.

The Gators scored 21-straight points on Nick Burkey’s 11-yard reception from Brncic, Coltin Colucci’s one-yard fumble recovery for a score and Landon Wayne’s 49-yard interception return for a 41-33 advantage.

Richmond caught five passes for 143 yards and Cawley pulled in six receptions for 112 yards.
