Copperheads ride big 5th inning to victory

Carmichaels plated eight runs in the fifth inning to break a tie in a 10-1 victory over Youghiogheny on Tuesday in Fayette County Baseball League (FCBL) play at Carmichaels High School.

The Copperheads (2-0) drew four walks and had three hits, all singles, in their eight-run inning that gave the home team a 9-1 lead.

Gavin Pratt had one of his three hits in the frame, and he drove in a team-high three runs.

Alex VanSickle drove in what proved to be the winning run with a sacrifice flyout to center field and a 2-1 advantage.

Jim Sadler walked with the bases loaded to force in a run before Pratt’s base hit scored Noah Mildren and Andino Vecchiolla for a 5-1 lead.

Sadler scored on a wild pitch, and Hunter Hamilton’s single to center field scored Pratt and Teddy Burke for an 8-1 advantage.

A.J. Vanata scored Carmichaels’ final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Pratt started on the mound and exited the game after allowing one earned run on two hits over four innings. He had seven strikeouts and walked two.

Ethan Erhard earned the pitching win after throwing two scoreless innings. He gave up one hit, struck out two and walked one.

VanSickle scored on an error in the sixth. He also doubled for the home team’s only extra-base hit.

Vecchiolla scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the second on Pratt’s base hit to left field.

Shane Evans’ double to center field scored Aidan Werner in the top of the third. Teammate Grayson Willis also doubled.

The Commodores’ Dom Colarusso had two singles batting at the top of the lineup.

Youghiogheny dropped to 2-2.
