Enslen, Jones share lead after 2nd round of Fayette County Open
Defending champion Jeremy Enslen left Springdale Golf Course Friday afternoon atop the Fayette County Open leaderboard, but he wasn鈥檛 alone, sharing the top spot with Ron Jones.
Enslen was the lone golfer under par after Friday鈥檚 opening round at Pleasant Valley Country Club with a 3-under 68, but slipped a bit with a 5-over 75 for a two-round total of 2-over 143. Jones shot a 2-over 72 at Springdale after carding an even-par 71 at Pleasant Valley.
Ten golfers are within five strokes of Enslen and Jones as the county tournament moves to Uniontown Country Club this morning. The fourth and final round will be played Sunday at Duck Hollow Golf Club.
Enslen said he wasn鈥檛 able to get anything going in the second round.
鈥淚 just didn鈥檛 have it today. I didn鈥檛 hit enough golf shots,鈥 explained Enslen. 鈥淭he greens were a big adjustment. They鈥檙e slower (at Springdale). The course was set up pretty tight.鈥
Despite the slip, Enslen acknowledged he鈥檚 right in the thick of things.
鈥淚 just need to get ready for Uniontown Country Club, and Duck Hollow is my home course,鈥 said Enslen.
Jones said his round wasn鈥檛 the purest, but managed to post a good enough score to give him a share of the midpoint lead.
鈥淭he back nine got a little erratic. I was striking the ball well. I was saving a lot of pars,鈥 said Jones. 鈥淵ou can get away with hitting the ball left and right here.
鈥淢y main problem was getting through Pleasant Valley. I like playing at Uniontown Country Club. I鈥檓 happy where I鈥檓 going into the weekend.鈥
Dave Jamison (75-69) and Chris Taylor (73-71) are one stroke behind at 144, and past county champions Pat Calvaresi (77-68) and John Kingora (72-73) stand two shots back at 145.
Zach Rockwell is alone in sixth place at 146, with Scott Bush, Fred David, George Knapp, and Santino Marchitello all at 147. Justin Goletz carded an even-par 70 to move into the mix with a two-round total of 148.
