Enslen alone at top of FCO leaderboard
Jeremy Enslen and Ron Jones shared the Fayette County Open lead and 10 golfers were within five strokes of the co-leaders after the second round Friday.
Enslen stood alone atop the leaderboard at the end of Saturday鈥檚 third round after posting a 3-under 68 at Uniontown Country Club with only one golfer within five strokes of the defending champion.
Enslen has a three-round total of 1-under 211, five strokes head of Santino Marchitello, who pushed up the leaderboard after carding a 2-under 69.
Enslen slipped in the second round with a 5-over 75, but opened with consecutive birdies to get off on the right foot. He finished with seven birdies and four bogeys.
鈥淚 was more focused today than yesterday, for whatever reason,鈥 said Enslen. 鈥淚 was 4-under after eight holes. I had a good shot on No. 9 (a par-3), but it spun off the green and I ended up with bogey.鈥
The final round moves to Duck Hollow Golf Club today, Enslen鈥檚 home course.
鈥淚 play Duck Hollow all the time. I鈥檓 planning for 18 pars. I鈥檒l take even par tomorrow,鈥 said Enslen.
Marchitello has steadily improved over the three days, starting with a 76 at Pleasant Valley Country Club and then carding a 71 at Springdale Golf Course before Saturday鈥檚 2-under round for a three-day total of 4-over 216.
鈥淚 knew I had to play well at home,鈥 said Marchitello, who plays out of Uniontown Country Club. 鈥淚 had a few bad chips. That was my only hiccups.
鈥淚t was a nice, even day. (Sunday) is a new course. I hope to keep it going.鈥
Dave Jamison rounds out the final threesome, shooting a 2-over 73 for a three-day total of 217. Fred David also moved up the board after his second consecutive 70, tying Jamison at 5-over 217.
Jones slipped down the board after a 4-over 75, standing at 6-over 218.
鈥淚 missed a lot of putts,鈥 said Jones. 鈥淚 was hitting the ball good, but I didn鈥檛 feel confident over the putter.鈥
Jones remained in a positive state as the tournament heads into the final day.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 play myself out of it,鈥 said Jones. 鈥淚鈥檒l get 鈥檈m tomorrow.鈥
