State police have released the names of two men who were injured in a shooting incident Wednesday in North Union Township.

Jared William Rivera, 29, of Uniontown, and Mark Samuel Goldberg, 29, of Clarksburg, W.Va., were taken to area hospitals for treatment, authorities said. Police said the men were shot around 8:26 p.m. on Varndell Street. A third man is also believed to be involved in the matter, police said.

The shooting is being investigated as an attempted homicide.

Rivera was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., following the shooting, according to a hospital spokesman, who said Thursday that he is in serious condition.

Another man who was involved in the shooting had driven away from the scene and was later located along Main Street in Uniontown and was transported to Uniontown Hospital for treatment. Police did not say whether that man was Goldberg, and hospital spokesman Josh Krysak was not able to confirm that Goldberg was a patient.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call state police Trooper James L. Garlick at 724-439-7111.
