Curb appeal can go a long way with potential buyers
As the old saying goes, 鈥淎pril showers bring May flowers.鈥� If you are looking to sell your home, enhancing it with May flowers and other elements of curb appeal could bring potential buyers.
鈥淸Curb appeal] is very important when you are trying to sell [your home],鈥� said Scott Cavinee, a broker with SWC properties in Uniontown. 鈥淭here is a whole bunch of things you can do to enhance it. I tell my sellers it is my job to get people to drive past your house; it is your job to make people want to see it.鈥�
The amount of curb appeal a homeowner wants to invest in depends on the individual.
鈥淵ou need to look at the outside. There are so many things people can do,鈥� said Cavinee.
Making a house look neat and clean goes a long way with potential buyers. Cavinee said that pressure washing porches and sidewalks, using a bag of 鈥渨eed and feed鈥� to remove weeds from the yard and cleaning up pet waste can make a big difference to buyers.
鈥淵ou want everything as fresh and clean as possible,鈥� he said.
Cavinee also suggested that people might want to add different decorative elements to spruce up their home such as painting a front door, planting flowers and replacing indoor outdoor carpeting. Even parking cars in front of the home can illustrate that there is a parking issue. The seller will want to remove their cars before a potential buyer drives by.
For those who do not mind making an investment in their home鈥檚 curb appeal, various additions can enhance the overall appearance of the house.
鈥淎wnings make a house look nice; shutters make a house look nice,鈥� said Cavinee.
According to an article from StatePoint, extending living spaces can be appealing to home buyers. This includes adding a patio with a retractable or fixed frame canopy and highlighting the area with comfortable and stylish patio furniture.
The final piece of advice that Cavinee offers is making sure the home has nothing offensive.
鈥淚t could be a political sign. Never have a political sign. Half of the people will not like that candidate,鈥� he said. 鈥淵ou want to be as neutral as possible.鈥�
It does not matter if a seller wants to add a completely new patio with an awning to enhance their curb appeal, or just a coat of paint to the front door; any enhancements can make a difference.
鈥淚t really is common sense,鈥� said Cavinee. 鈥淟ook at your house and see what doesn鈥檛 look right and fix it.鈥�
