Police: Man broke into Pechin’s through air vent

By The Herald Standard 1 min read

A man was arrested after allegedly breaking into Pechin Super Foods Market through an air conditioner vent in the roof while a security guard watched him Tuesday.

Thomas Jefferson Beal, 48, of Dunbar told officials he was on the roof because he was sleeping there.

A security guard in the Dunbar Township store told police Beal broke through the ceiling at about 3 a.m., dropping a rope ladder to enter the market.

The guard said he was watching him after he broke through the security vent.

The guard called state police. Troopers surrounded the building, while two more troopers went onto the roof to take Beal into custody.

Morrell fire department responded to get Beal and the troopers off the roof with a ladder truck.

Beal was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.

He was lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $7,500 bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 10.
