A man who was shot in German Township early Sunday was released from the hospital, while police continue working to identify a suspect.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was shot on Leckrone Highhouse Road near its intersection with Springer Road in German Township and flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. There, doctors reattached a large portion of his ear which was ripped in the shooting, according to German Township Police Chief David Hromada.

A person who knew the victim called 911 at 12:38 a.m. to report the shooting, Hromada said.

The man was driving a Jeep Cherokee when a car began tailgating him. He pulled over to let the car pass when someone fired about six shots. Five went into the windshield and one hit the victim, police said.

German Township police are investigating.
