Woman killed in fatal Point Marion fire identified

The woman who died in a fire in her Point Marion home early Thursday morning has been identified by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

Sylvia Lavitsky, 70, was pronounced dead on the scene just before 6 a.m. by Fayette County Deputy Coroner Mallory Napolillo.

The fire started shortly after 4 a.m. at 128 Greater Point Marion Road.

An autopsy revealed she died from thermal injuries, according to deputy coroner Jessie Camilli. The final results are pending toxicology tests, she said.

A state police fire marshal was called to investigate the cause of the fire. No information on the fire has been released.

According to her obituary, she had two children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was originally from Mount Washington.
