The campus was closed Thursday due to the outage, which Christine Kindl, vice president for communications and marketing at Cal U, said was caused by an equipment failure, depriving power of about two thirds of Cal U鈥檚 buildings.

Kindl noted there were emergency generators in key buildings, including the Convocation Center, where a warming center has been set up. As of around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, power was restored to the Convocation Center and the Natali Student Center, according to the university鈥檚 website.

Kindl said the temperatures in Cal U鈥檚 residence halls were still comfortable as of Thursday afternoon.

鈥淲e鈥檙e lucky to have had a warm day,鈥 Kindl said.

A notice on Cal U鈥檚 website indicated that only essential personnel were to report to campus.

鈥淚f your students are on campus, we鈥檙e taking good care of them,鈥 Kindl said. 鈥淲e will keep them warm, we will feed them. We are just cancelling classes because our academic buildings don鈥檛 have power.鈥

Vulcan Flyer shuttles operated on the usual schedule.

Vulcan Village was not affected by the outage, Kindl said.
