A Mill Run man is being held on a $50,000 bond for allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash on Springfield Pike Sunday.

Oscar “Marvin” Johel Beltran Contreras, 41, of Turkeyfoot Road reportedly admitted to state police he caused the crash and told them he was in the country illegally, court documents said.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Robbie Bittner’s vehicle broke down on the side of the road in the 3300 block of Springfield Pike. Bittner told police a vehicle was speeding and hit his vehicle from behind at about 12:30 a.m.

The man, who police later identified as Contreras, reportedly offered Bittner money and threw beer cans over the guard rail. When Bittner refused the money, Contreras allegedly fled on foot.

Contreras went to the state police barracks and gave police a written statement at about 4 a.m., according to court documents.

Police said Contreras was driving without a license.

He was arraigned Sunday morning by on-call Magisterial District Judge Jennifer Jeffries. Contreras remains in Fayette County Prison in lieu of bail.
