Mount Pleasant man arrested after firing shots into air in Vanderbilt
A Mount Pleasant man is facing charges after he allegedly fired shots in the air, trying to get his brothers to fight Sunday night outside 403 Bank Street in Vanderbilt.
Anthony Lee Christopher Hurtt, 30, of Reagan Road told police his next encounter with them would be “suicide by cop,” and he was taken to Highlands Hospital in Connellsville for an evaluation, according to court documents.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were called at about 5:15 p.m. for a report of a man firing a gun. State police arrived and found Hurtt, who said he was firing at the sky because he wanted his brothers to come outside and fight him. Witnesses told police he was mad about family issues and fired shots in the air when his three brothers wouldn’t come outside. When they said they were calling police, he allegedly through his gun over a nearby embankment.
Police located the shotgun and several shotgun shells. Hurtt “headbutted” a seat in the patrol car, causing a cut which required medical treatment, according to court documents.
He was charged with risking catastrophe, harassment, disorderly conduct and six counts each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
His arraignment is pending release from the hospital. Charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Richard A. Kasunic II.
