Charges have been filed against a Monessen man who attempted to break into a woman’s Rostraver Township home.

Rostraver Township Police charged Todd Edward Houseman, 44, with attempted burglary, criminal trespass, attempted theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief.

Police said a resident of Webster Hollow Road called 911 at 10:48 a.m. Tuesday to say someone tried to break into his neighbor’s home and then fled in a white Chevrolet sedan, heading west toward Webster.

The neighbor told police that he was outside in his yard when he heard a window shatter next door; when he went to the neighbor’s house, he saw Houseman, who then fled the scene.

Police said the door frame was separated from the house’s side door, and noted a broken window at the home. When Monessen police found Houseman later, he reportedly admitted he tried to break into the home to steal copper to sell at a scrapyard.

He is lodged in the Westmoreland County Prison with bond set at $25,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 27 at Magisterial District Court 10-1-3.
