Honeys Helping Hand continues with plans to host Easter dinner
Honeys Helping Hand is continuing plans to host an Easter Sunday dinner at 3 p.m. April 12 at Marshall Manor senior high rise at 112 E. Main St., Uniontown. The dinner is open to the residents and anyone who needs a meal.
鈥淲e have to be very careful because of the coronavirus, but if anybody comes, I鈥檓 going to serve them,鈥� said Edna Brown, of New Salem, aka Honey, who founded the community outreach program in 2018.
Brown said Honeys Helping Hand is also continuing its weekly food distribution in Uniontown at 1 p.m. Mondays at Bierer Wood Acres as long as the organization receives food.
鈥淲e are following health protocols, wiping things down, washing hands and using hand sanitizer,鈥� said Brown. 鈥淲e鈥檙e prepacking the food and everyone comes in one person at a time and people stand in line three to six feet apart.鈥�
Brown added, 鈥淓verybody who comes here is using hand sanitizer. I put it in their hands myself. I have a good rapport with people so nobody gets offended. We are following protocol. I tell people if they鈥檙e sick, don鈥檛 come. If they feel nervous, don鈥檛 come. If someone comes and stays in their car because they feel sick, I鈥檒l make a box for them. I never turn anyone away.鈥�
Honeys is stopping its community informational programs featuring speakers from local organizations at Bierer Wood, however, while coronavirus continues.
Brown said Honeys Helping Hand recently distributed 42 pallets of surface cleaning wipes that were given to Fayette County Community Action Agency Inc. by Berkley Surgical and passed on to her organization.
鈥淚鈥檓 working with Community Action. We picked them up and passed them out to churches, fire departments, police departments, schools, daycares,鈥� Brown reeled off a list.
Honeys Helping Hand distributes food received as donations from local businesses and organizations. Many contributed to a Thanksgiving Day dinner Honeys hosted at Marshall Manor in November 2019. The group fed 130 people.
Brown said Honeys plans to serve a spaghetti and meatballs dinner at the Easter Sunday dinner and is awaiting word on donations to round out the rest of the menu.
鈥淭here鈥檚 a lot of people who don鈥檛 have a place to go,鈥� Brown said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 a family day. It鈥檚 a day people would like to visit with somebody other than being by themselves.鈥�
