The Coker This 鈥楴鈥 That Thrift Resale and Thrift Shop is located on West Crawford Avenue in Connellsville. The story is run by the Coker Council for Arts and Activities.

A Connellsville nonprofit is renovating a space to provide local theater and youth activities.

The Coker Council for the Arts and Activities plans to transform space in the former Woolworth鈥檚 store on West Crawford Avenue into a small event center and a black box theater.

The organization鈥檚 vice president and treasurer William Colvin said the theater will feature local professional and amateur entertainment and free training for children, as well as having a space for after school programs for young people in the area.

鈥淭hese kids generally don鈥檛 get involved in other activities, so it will give them something to do and teach basic skills,鈥 Colvin said. 鈥淚t will be one additional place in town to reach out to the community and serve the community.鈥

Plans have been in works for the theater and event center for several years, but the pandemic delayed CCAA鈥檚 progress on the projects.

鈥淐OVID also slowed down everything getting done,鈥 Colvin said. 鈥淲e want to finish cleaning and get paint on the wall (for the event center).鈥

Volunteers are needed to help in that effort, he said.

The CCAA鈥檚 thrift store, Coker This 鈥楴鈥 That Resale Shop, is also located on West Crawford. Funded by donations, the store鈥檚 proceeds go right back into the organization to support current and future efforts.

Colvin said the nonprofit plans to establish an outreach program for veterans, and establish a museum to celebrate Connellsville High School and the former Immaculate Conception and Dunbar high schools.

He said the organization is always looking for volunteers, and those interested can check out the Coker Council for The Arts and Activities鈥 Facebook page or visit their website at cokercouncilartsandactivities.com.

鈥淲e鈥檙e seeing a need for energetic, nonprofit work in this year, and we formed our organization to provide sensible solutions,鈥 Colvin said. 鈥淲e鈥檝e consistently grown 鈥 all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community.鈥
