City Mission holds topping-off ceremony for 鈥淪ally鈥檚 Sanctuary鈥 women鈥檚 shelter
Washington City Mission held a beam-signing and topping-off ceremony Thursday morning to celebrate a construction milestone for 鈥淪ally鈥檚 Sanctuary鈥 women鈥檚 shelter being built in the city. The $7.1 million shelter that will offer housing for up to 50 women for overnight stays is about one-third of the way through construction.
Sally Mounts, who recently retired as the City Mission鈥檚 chief development officer and for whom the shelter is named, was the first to sign the beam, followed by numerous others during the ceremony. 鈥淚鈥檝e got a pen to sign this beam,鈥 Mounts said. 鈥淟et鈥檚 get it up. Let鈥檚 finish that shelter.鈥
The beam with 鈥淪ally鈥檚 Sanctuary鈥 emblazoned on the side was then hoisted in the air by a crane and brought into place by ironworkers with Mosites Construction Co. as they installed the final piece of the building鈥檚 steel frame.
