Father sentenced in connection with toddler’s drowning in German Township
A Fayette County man whose 2-year-son drowned after climbing into an aboveground pool while unsupervised in July 2024 was sentenced to house arrest followed by probation.
Donald Myers III, 31, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Fayette County Court of Common Pleas to endangering welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person in connection to the death of his son, Carson Myers.
According to court records, on July 26, 2024, Myers had gone to a neighbor’s house with his mother, Tisha Cuppett, while their children were playing outside at their house on Leckrone 1 Road in German Township.
Myers said in court Tuesday he believed his son, Carson, had climbed up to the pool by standing on a toy car.
The other children were unable to locate Carson, eventually finding him face down in the pool, the complaint said. They then ran to the neighbors’ house to tell their parents. Myers pulled Carson from the pool and attempted to resuscitate him, according to court documents.
After pleading guilty, Myers was sentenced by Senior Judge John Wagner to serve 18 months on house arrest with electronic monitoring and then will be on probation for five years.
“Obviously, they’ve suffered a lot for losing a child, but we think it was preventable,” Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said Tuesday.
Cuppett was also sentenced to up to five years probation earlier this month.
