Fayette 250 Kids Fest coming Saturday
A festival this weekend celebrating America’s — and Fayette County’s — 250th anniversary will give families a chance to take in a musical number, do hands-on science activities and also learn what local non-profits have to offer.
The Fayette 250 Kids Fest is happening from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the South Union Recreation Center, 333 Pennsylvania Ave., Uniontown.
Co-sponsoring the event are Community Foundation of Fayette County, A Child’s Place, Parents as Teachers and state Sen. Patrick Stefano’s office.
Hajek-Bates said the group, led by organizer Marlena Theodori of A Child’s Place, wanted to bring families together to celebrate children in Fayette County, while also highlighting the many community groups there to help.
While the event is tied to a landmark year, organizers hope to continue it for the 251st and beyond.
“We are optimistic that this event will become an annual gathering that unites our community and highlights the many resources available to families,” Hajek-Bates said.
The Community Foundation of Fayette County lined up participation from local nonprofits organizations, many of which have committed to offering hands‑on activities and donating raffle items for attendees, Hajek-Bates said.
“Each nonprofit who is going to come and have a booth, we’re asking them to have some type of activity,” said Rebecca Wardle, communications and grant-making coordinator for CFFC.
Stefano’s team is also helping organize educational activities and encouraging full community engagement.
People can get photos with Fiona Fayette, the children’s history ambassador for Fayette County, who will help attendees learn more about Fayette County’s history.
Also Saturday, Mad Science of Pittsburgh will lead an interactive STEM activity and hands‑on lesson.
Visitors can also get the experience of the theater, as the Main Street Theatre Company will be previewing its upcoming production of “Annie.” Some lucky attendees will also win tickets to the show, which will be held at the State Theatre Center for the Arts on July 9, 10, and 11 at 7 p.m., and July 12 at 2 p.m.
Families can attend the event without preregistering. For more information, call 824-550-4037.
