Three rescued after falling into Yough River

1 min read

Three kayakers were rescued after falling into the Youghiogheny River in Upper Tyrone Township Sunday afternoon.

Crews were called out at 1:42 p.m. after receiving a report that kayaks carrying three people had overturned near Everson, Fayette County 911 said.

The three people had made their way to a riverbank on the Upper Tyrone side but could not be reached due to the terrain, according to a Facebook post from the Everson Fire Department.

Firefighters from Morrell, which was also called, could see the kayakers and made phone contact with them while they awaited rescue, the Everson department said.

The alarm was upgraded to send out the New Haven Hose and Dawson departments, both of which had boats. Launching from the Dunbar Township side of the river, New Haven successfully brought back all three people, Everson’s post said.

All three declined medical care.
