A South Connellsville tavern suffered severe damage in a fire Thursday morning.

A caller reported a loud explosion at Fox’s Tavern on West Wine Street about 2:52 a.m., South Connellsville Fire Chief Jeremy Grubbs said.

The department’s assistant chief arrived on scene to find an active fire in the kitchen area, Grubbs said. There were no injuries reported.

Firefighters were out on scene for about three hours, Grubbs said.

The state police fire marshal is investigating what caused the fire.

New Haven, Connellsville, Morrell, Monarch, DL & V, Dawson, and Everson departments assisted in the response.
