Layton Bridge to temporarily close next week for inspections
There will be short-term daytime closures of the Layton Bridge over the Youghiogheny River in Perry Township next week while crews inspect the historic 127-year-old span, the state Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.
PennDOT crews will close the bridge daily from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. beginning Monday and continuing until May 15 as part of routine inspections. Detours will be posted in the area.
The single-lane bridge and nearby tunnel – both of which were once used by the railroad – will be replaced by the end of 2029 as PennDOT works to build a new span across the river.
