A Uniontown man was arrested after being accused of assaulting a man with a machete in Georges Township Thursday night.

Joseph Kissinger Jr., 30, faces charges of aggravated assault and simple assault.

Ryan Lytle told police Kissinger had come up to him around 11 p.m. and asked if he and his girlfriend could park her car in front of Lytle’s residence on Collier Avenue.

After they would not move, Lytle told police he called Kissinger’s ex-girlfriend to get them to leave.

While Lytle was talking with Kissinger’s girlfriend, Kissinger reached over from the passenger seat and slashed Lytle’s hand with a machete, leaving a deep laceration, charging documents stated.

Police arrested Kissinger at his girlfriend’s North Union Township house, where an officer found him hiding in the bathroom.

A search of the car yielded a serrated machete in the trunk and blood under the driver’s side window on the outside where Lytle had been standing, according to the complaint.

Kissinger told police Lytle had reached into the vehicle, almost making physical contact with his girlfriend, to which he reacted by swinging the machete at Lytle, the complaint said.

Kissinger was arraigned before Judge Nathan Henning Friday morning and lodged in the Fayette County jail after being unable to post $50,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10.
