George Daniel “Danny” Shimek, 80, of McClellandtown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

He was born on July 13, 1946, in Menallen Township, son of the late George and Mary Coss Shimek.

George was a Coal Mine Foreman at Maple Creek and Dana Mines.

He served in The United States Army from 1965 to 1976.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Andrea Cubic Shimek; brothers: Samuel Shimek (KIA/MIA from The Vietnam War), John Shimek and James Shimek; and sisters: Wilma Bennett, Barbara Moses and two infants.

George is survived by his three children: Daniel Shimek and wife, Kimberly, Danielle Guthrie and husband, John, and David Shimek, Sr.; four grandchildren: Austin Wagner, David Shimek, Jr. and wife, Rebecca, Hannah Guthrie and Savannah Guthrie; great-granddaughter: Ava Escalante; and sister, Marcia Shimek. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins

Friends will be received in The Dearth Funeral Home, 35 South Mill Street, New Salem, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Andy Miles officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in Footedale, where Full Military Rites will be accorded by The Hopwood AMVETS Post #103.
