George Cyktor, 95, of Uniontown, a dedicated public servant, proud veteran, and beloved family patriarch, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 16, 2026. He left behind a legacy of integrity and devotion. He was born May 3, 1931 in Wyano, a son of the late Charles and Katherine Cyktor. George lived a life defined by service to his country and his community.
George was a man of profound discipline and courage. From 1950 to 1953, he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Upon returning home, he began a distinguished 39-year career with the Pennsylvania State Police. Rising through the ranks to Captain, George served as the Troop Commander for both Troop T and Troop B. In 1978, he reached a professional pinnacle by attending the FBI National Academy. He retired in 1991 at the rank of Captain.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Cyktor; daughter, Karen Adams; and grandson, Keaton Adams; siblings, John Cyktor, Charles Cyktor, Anne Martin, Mary Zello, and Nick Cyktor.
His memory lives on through his son, Keith Cyktor (Carole); son-in- law, Rodney Adams; and grandchildren, Kristy Chmelewski (Cliff), Joshua Cyktor, Daniel Adams (Madeline); and great-grandson, Ronin Chmelewski.
Whether navigating the complexities of a criminal investigation, enjoying the quiet company of his family, or tending his beloved garden, George remained a pillar of his community. He was a man who understood the value of hard work, and the importance of protecting those around him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, his former colleagues in the Pennsylvania State Police, and the many lives he touched throughout his decades of service. “To protect and to serve”, was not just a job for George, it was the way he lived his life.
A private committal service will be held Tuesday, July 27, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, under the direction of the SHELL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 164 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue, Uniontown. Following the service, family and friends are invited to attend lunch at Bud Murphy’s, 718 McCormick Avenue, Connellsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in memory of George, be made to Mission Trip Birdsboro & Beyond, 5 Brooke Manor, Birdsboro, PA 19508.
