Dorothy Fern Lynn Miller-Clawson, 96, of Oliver, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on November 11, 1929, in Star Junction, a daughter of the late Amzi Lynn and Kathryn Mellinger Lynn.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Miller; second husband, Robert Clawson; daughter, Debra Miller; brother, Raymond Lynn; and sister, Brenda Hall. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Dorothy graduated from Dunbar Township High School with the Class of 1947. She continued her education at West Virginia University before proudly earning her Registered Nurse diploma from Monongalia General Hospital in 1950. She remained on the nursing staff there until 1954, when she accepted a position at Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol. During her eight years at Lower Bucks Hospital, she served as an emergency, pediatric and medical-surgical nurse. She also served as both a nurse and office manager for a pediatric practice during this time.

Dorothy returned to the Connellsville area and dedicated 22 years to Connellsville State General Hospital and Highlands Hospital and Health Center. During her career there, she served as both a staff nurse and head nurse on the medical-surgical units before being promoted to Director of Nursing in 1987. Following her retirement from Highlands Hospital in 1993, Dorothy continued to volunteer at the hospital.

She was a devoted lifelong member of Juniata United Methodist Church in Dunbar, where she faithfully volunteered and served as a Sunday school teacher, church pianist and choir director. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed bowling, and continued the sport well into her early 90s.

Dorothy will be lovingly remembered for her unwavering faith, her kindness and compassion and her lifelong dedication to caring for others-not only as a registered nurse, but also as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Anita J. Stark (Jesse) of Dunbar and Pamela Stewart (Daniel) of Lexington, Kentucky; her grandchildren: Dayna Wise (Duane) of Dunbar, Christy Nassis (Derek) of Irwin, Kate Robertson (Phillip) of Pittsburgh and Madison Stewart of Lexington, Kentucky; her great-grandchildren: Gaven Martin of Perryopolis, and Eliza Robertson and Hunter Robertson, both of Pittsburgh; her stepchildren: Larry Clawson (Karen) of Florida, Bonnie Hartley (Bob) of Florida, Dana McCune (John) of Uniontown and Robin Burke (Jim) of Virginia; along with many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Family and friends will be received in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 418 North Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville, PA 15425, from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 29. Visitation will continue at Juniata United Methodist Church, 407 Main St., Dunbar, PA 15431, from 9 a.m. until the hour of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 30, with Pastors Peter Salko and David Ealy officiating.
