Duane Edward Bentz, 73, passed suddenly in his home in Uniontown, Saturday, June 13, 2026.
Born November 10, 1952, in Brownsville, Duane was the dedicated father and husband, who cherished his loving wife of 51 years, Marie. Together they raised their sons, Matt and Duane, Jr. and established his business, Duane E. Bentz Truck Repair, where he built a reputation for hard work, integrity, and craftsmanship.
He was also a devoted member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church and the Fairbanks Rod and Gun Club.
A man who truly loved the outdoors, Duane was an accomplished hunter, fisherman, and car enthusiast. He took great pride in building cars and especially enjoyed cruising in his beloved 1955 Chevy alongside his soulmate, Marie. Together, they attended many car shows, where his work earned numerous accolades.
He was the son of the late Edward Bentz and Shirley Mae McGalla Bentz.
He was a proud graduate of Brownsville High School and went on to earn his teaching degree from California University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ann McGalla; and grandfather, Steve McGalla; mother-in-law, Margaret Tolnai; uncle, Jim Krulock; brother-in- law, Bill “Bib” Tolnai; cousin, Ricky McGalla.
He is survived by his dear wife, Marie Tolnai Bentz; his sons, Matt Bentz and Duane Bentz, Jr.; his sister, Charmaine Bentz; his niece, Nicole Stauffer and husband Ryan and their children, Connor, Chloe and Claire; and his brother, Terry; He is also survived by his sister-in- law, Carolyn “Cookie” Tolnai; Patricia “Patty” Krulock; Mark and Pam Springer; his cousins, David and Danny Krulock, David Doman, Ramona Doman Fetty, Duke Doman, Billy and Billy Jo Bentz, Michael Krulock, as well as many extended family members and dear friends, including best friend, Rick Sokal; Gary Patterson, Kristy Syrek, Mike and Tammy Hajduk and family.
Duane will be remembered as a genuine, humble, God-fearing man who valued family above all else. His strong work ethic, kind spirit, and quiet strength made him an inspiration to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received in the DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, 35 South Mill Street, New Salem, Thursday, June 18, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, June 19, until 9:30 a.m., when a Panachida Service will be held followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of The Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Fr. James Ragan as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Macrina Cemetery in Uniontown.
