David “Dickie” Barnes, formerly of Uniontown, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nev., at the age of 82. The son of the late Carmella Murray and Ellis Barnes, Dickie was born February 24, 1944 in Uniontown. He went to grade school in Uniontown and then graduated from Uniontown High School.

While growing up in Uniontown, Dickie met his childhood sweetheart and future wife, Carolyn Janko.

Dickie played on the 1962 State Champion Uniontown High School basketball team.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1966 as a military police officer, serving in Vietnam from November 1965 to November 1966.

Dickie lived with his wife, Carolyn, in Maryland from 1967 to 1998. He worked at the Montgomery County Maryland Police Department from 1967 to 1988, retiring as a corporal.

After retiring from the police department, Dickie and Carolyn owned a small business in Maryland that sold officially licensed sports apparel. He also worked for a private security company in Maryland with other Montgomery County police officers. And, for over 20 years, Dickie worked on the “chain gang crew” for the Washington Redskins with other officers from his police department.

He coached baseball at two different high schools in Maryland as well as several little league baseball teams.

He and Carolyn moved to Las Vegas in 1998, and while in Vegas Dickie played in various levels of senior softball, including Major and Major Plus, and he traveled throughout the U.S. playing in national senior softball tournaments. Dickie was inducted into the Las Vegas Senior Softball Association (LVSSA) in 2008 and the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2013.

Dickie and Carolyn were married for almost 63 years. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his sons, David and Donald “Donnie”; two grandchildren; two brothers, Mark Barnes and Terry Murray; and three sisters, Shirley Slampak, Joyce Palya and Debbie Fotta.
