Trump stokes hatred with racist remarks
With one statement, the president has managed to broadcast to the world his stunning ignorance and racism.
In directing that Democratic U. S. Representatives Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, Omar, and Pressley go back to their countries to fix what he feels is broken there, he has rendered these unsympathetic figures victims, insulting countless Americans in the process and embarrassing himself and our once-great, once-tolerant country on the international stage. He has also shown that he does not know what he is talking about, given that only Ilhan Omar is an immigrant.
Trump’s comment is consistent with the mindset of the individual who reviles people of color, immigrants, and those who come from what he calls “s–hole countries”, the man who has engaged in a lifetime of racist acts dating all the way back to the time in which he and his father settled charges that they engaged in systematic racial discrimination in the renting of apartment buildings that they owned.
If the president were ever to appear before an audience which is not selected on the basis of blindly adoring him, he would be laughed at when he preaches reconciliation and asserts that he is the president who brings people together. In fact, Donald Trump has done more to divide us than any president has done or could do, throwing gasoline on the flames of hatred and intolerance.
