Ego can get on your nerves

By Gary Shaporka 4 min read

There are people who have and those who do not. I have compassion for the poorly unfortunates scraping the bottom of the barrel to get a little of something and be thrilled just for a moment of their contemptible life. I am riding that wagon myself. It “seems” as though even through prayer for help, many of us just cannot make ends meet. Taken into consideration, being patient with prayer for help, your moment of delight will be answered. (The slow worm eventually turns and every dog has their day.)

Most people always pray for the best, especially in the face of adversity. Have patience, you never know when God will provide. God provides eventually but for those who forcefully earn it with effort. Your plant won’t grow unless you give it sunlight and water (effort.) It’s not guaranteed but a sincere attempt is worthy. My favorite quote is of Benjamin Franklin, “In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes.” I recall my days long gone by of years ago at my favorite membership club enjoying a cold brew and some braggart boasting of their wonderful life, financial and the luxuries it provides. Flourishing about their children’s academic achievements or their older child’s successful employment status and salary. Some of us have problems and misbehavior at home and don’t want to hear it. Circumstances of not getting along domestically and nonspeaking years on end. Having lost a child prematurely and never having a chance of succeeding in life. Most of us struggle to survive and scratching the dirt for worms like a chicken. They don’t need to hear someone’s self-pride rhetoric. Keep it to yourself! Blow your trumpet within your own family. Drunk or sober ego inflated boasting is a pain in the ear. If things are going well for you, leave it silent wherever it may be. Your contemptible boasting makes things worse for those dealing with adverse conditions. Bragging rights is a circumstance of valueless talk. If asked, a mild response of pride concerning yourself or children is adequate. Being exceeding proud and being overly pretentious are night and day. New Testament Timothy 1 6:16, “As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches.”

Windbags substantiate more contempt and creates a frustrating earful of those trying to enjoy social times. These individuals are appropriately identified as self-admiration absurdities. This kind of inflated ego makes you wonder why they don’t float up in the air like a hot air balloon. We think of them as an annoying continual dripping spigot (ill-colloquial addicts.) Blowing one’s trumpet may be a way of self-satisfaction but others look at it in a different perspective. A perspective of feeling like hell and lost. A feeling of being the very bottom image of a totem pole. Everyone sitting above you on your shoulders. Egotism is an excessive reference to oneself in speaking to others. A vanity of being vain. Ecclesiastes (Sirach) New Testament, 10:13, “For the beginning of pride is sin, and the one who clings to it pours out abominations.” Abomination is regarded as an ill omen and dislike. These individuals that spread oneself amongst others are over-extending and pretentious. Spreading oneself is like a farmer “spreading manure” to ensure their satisfaction of a good crop. Spreading one’s ego is ensuring their satisfaction of having it great regardless of those having not. There’s an old country wives’ tale that those babbling about themselves or family be cursed with lockjaw.

A proverb adapted from the Scriptures reads, “Do not cast your pearls before swine.” i.e. Do not waste self-pride on indigent people who will not appreciate it and possible hurt them emotionally. Politicians are classical bombastics. Hearing their beating on the drum is of extreme imagery. One is grandiloquent with ear-beating for the reason of making down to earth sense about the truth concerning the reality and betterment of our national concerns (“MAGA”) Keep America Great.
