Americanism Day continues to be a success
The membership of American Legion Post 51 would like to thank the citizens of Uniontown and the surrounding communities for the support and wonderful turn out on May 1 for Americanism Day.
This was the 86th continuous parade and celebration, which began in 1934. In that year there was plenty of turmoil over the communist political party who wanted to parade in Uniontown, there was controversy over granting a parade permit, and the risk of a riot. Five legionnaires from Post 51 solved the problem with an Americanism Day parade and celebration. We can and should be thankful of that event. Post 51 proudly salutes all who participated in the parade and helped make it a success. It was a great parade. Some 20,000 plus spectators watched. Keep in mind that no veterans service organization in this country can boast a continuous celebration like Post 51.
Overall. it is you the citizens of Uniontown and the sounding communities that make May 1 a very special day for all Americans to celebrate.
Thanks to all of you.
