LETTER: Commonsense legislation
School has resumed and our kids are back playing sports. It’s great to see children competing in soccer, cross country, and volleyball.
But with the return of high school and college sports, we once again are faced with the concern of biological males competing in girls’ sports. This recent phenomenon unfairly robs girls of opportunities and scholarships. Thankfully, state Sen. Camera Bartolotta is doing something about it.
Recently, Senate Bill 9 passed with an overwhelming bipartisan majority in the state Senate. This was thanks in large part to Bartolotta, who cosponsored this commonsense legislation to prevent biological males from competing in women’s sports.
We’ve seen examples across the country where transgender athletes have competitive advantages over their biological female opponents. In recent surveys, opposition to allowing transgender individuals to compete in women’s sports is as high as 80%.
Bartolotta wants to make sure that women and girls in Pennsylvania are treated fairly in athletics. The right course of action is to not allow men to compete in women’s sports.
I am so thankful that we have a commonsense senator representing our area. Bartolotta is fighting to make sure none of our daughters are robbed of fair, safe competition.
