What champs?

Despite football’s rabid fans stuffing the North Shore like a mattress in a briefcase last week and setting an attendance record for the annual NFL Draft, Pittsburgh will have a difficult time maintaining its “City of Champions” moniker.

After a mediocre season with three assured future Hall of Famers and a host of talented youngsters, the Penguins sputtered out of the playoffs early, losing the battle of Pennsylvania. Meanwhile the Pirates, with the current Cy Young Award pitcher and a host of mega salaried rookies and imports is again spiraling toward the comfort of the basement.

The Steelers, unable to solve their quarterback and receiver problems, let alone the offensive line, which hasn’t been great since the first half of Ben’s career, is playing the game of “Maybe he will, maybe he won’t” with

Aaron Rodgers. It just doesn’t feel like sports domination.

Perhaps the 2025 USL champs, Pittsburgh Riverhounds can carry the Pittsburgh sports scene across the goal!
